Vocal – Classical and light Music
Vocal music is a form of musical expression performed using the human voice. There are various styles of vocal music, two of which are Hindustani classical music and light music. Both Hindustani classical music and light music have their own unique characteristics and aesthetic appeal. The choice between them depends on personal preferences, training, and the context in which the music will be performed.
Harmonium
The harmonium is a small, keyboard instrument that is commonly used in Indian classical and devotional music. It consists of a series of reeds and keys and is operated by hand-pumped bellows. The keys are pressed, and air is pushed through the reeds, producing sound. The harmonium is known for its rich and distinctive sound and is commonly used to accompany vocalists or as a solo instrument in Indian music. It is found in various sizes and is a prominent instrument in Indian classical music as well as religious music such as bhajans and kirtans.
Guitar/Violin
The violin is a string instrument that is played with a bow. It is a versatile instrument that is widely used in various genres of music, including classical, jazz, folk, and even popular music. The violin offers a vast range of expressive possibilities and is a popular choice among musicians due to its versatility and the beauty of its sound. Keyboard/Piano
Keyboard and piano are both musical instruments They have similarities, but they also have some differences. Both keyboard and piano have keys that are used to produce sound. The keys usually follow a standardized layout of white and black keys.They both require the player to use their fingers to press the keys and produce the desired notes.They can be used to play a wide range of musical styles and genres.Keyboards are typically smaller and more portable compared to pianos. Pianos have strings that are struck by hammers when the keys are pressed, resulting in an acoustic sound. Keyboards, on the other hand, produce sound electronically through speakers or headphones.
Octopad/Drums
The Octapad is an electronic drum pad that is typically used by drummers and percussionists. It has multiple sensitive pads that are capable of producing different sounds when struck.
Drums: The drums are a percussion instrument that includes various sized shells made of different materials such as wood or metal. They are played by striking the surface of the drum with sticks or hands.
Tabla/Dholki/Dholak
The tabla is a pair of small drums that is commonly used in North Indian classical music. It consists of two drums – the smaller one is called the dayan or tabla, and the larger one is called the bayan or dagga.
Dholak: The dholak is a traditional Indian double-headed drum. It is commonly used in folk music and popular in North India and Pakistan. It is played using both hands, and the pitch and tone can be altered by applying pressure to the skin while striking it.
